Biggest ASC deals in September 

Here are three major ASC-related deals made in September:

  1. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health officially added Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Sansum Clinic to its healthcare system. Since the start of partnership discussions, Sutter and Sansum have championed the expansion of Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Foothill Surgery Center, which is now opening newly constructed operating rooms.
  2. UnitedHealth Group is looking to take a majority ownership stake in Guilford (Conn.) Surgery Center. The surgery center sold a 49 percent non-controlling interest to Surgical Care Affiliates, which is part of UnitedHealth’s Optum division, in 2022. Now, the surgery center is seeking permission from state regulators to sell an additional stake to SCA and UnitedHealth to give them 58 percent controlling interest.
  3. Amedisys shareholders approved a $3.3 billion acquisition by Optum. Optum announced plans to merge with Baton Rouge, La.-based home and hospice care provider in June.
