AmSurg in 2025: 10 numbers to know

Nashville, Tenn.-based AmSurg, one of the nation’s largest ASC operators, is expanding through acquisitions and preparing for a major ownership change under St. Louis-based Ascension.

Here are 10 numbers to know so far in 2025:

  1. AmSurg operates more than 250 ASCs across 34 states.
  1. The company currently partners with about 2,000 physicians.
  1. AmSurg controls roughly 3.9% of the ASC market, ranking among the top five ASC operators. 
  1. AmSurg added two new centers, including Pinnacle Surgery Center in Covington, La., and Texarkana Surgery Center in Texas.
  1. Following these additions, AmSurg’s portfolio totals 250-plus ASCs across 34 states.
  1. AmSurg also recently partnered with Escondido, Calif.-based Palomar Health as part of its expansion into new collaboration models. 
  1. On June 17, Ascension entered a definitive agreement to acquire AmSurg in a deal valued at $3.9 billion. 
  1. The acquisition is expected to close in late 2025 or early 2026, pending regulatory approval.
  1. The transaction will expand Ascension’s ASC footprint from 58 centers to more than 300 nationwide.

10. The ASC market is projected to grow 9% to 12% over the next five years, a trend Ascension executives say the AmSurg deal positions them to capture.
