Alaska Denies Surgery Center Request From Kahtnu Ventures

The Alaska Department of Health and Human Services has denied a request to build an ambulatory surgery center in Kenai from Kahtnu Ventures, according to a Peninsula Clarion report.

Kahtnu Ventures recently filed an application for a certificate of need with the department for an 8,365-square-foot ambulatory surgery center. The application was denied because of "untimely submission of information," according to a health and social services planner for the state.

The deadline to submit the information was Nov. 9, and the state needed to see certified construction cost estimates and bid quotes for equipment from suppliers by that point. The estimates provided by Kahtnu Ventures were not certified, according to the report.

The proposal prompted Central Peninsula Hospital officials to examine a counter-proposal, saying surgeries could be taken away from the hospital as a result of the ASC construction.
