Alabama ASC Physicians May Sell Minority Ownership Stake to Majority Owner Hospital

Alabama’s Medical West, an affiliate of UAB Health System, is considering purchasing the minority ownership stake held by physician investors in the Medical West Ambulatory Surgery Center in Bessemer, Ala., according to the Birmingham Business Journal.

Medical West owns 78 percent of the ASC, while 17 physician investors own the remaining 22 percent.

Medical West’s CEO Tom McDougal said he wants to decide on the ASC’s ownership in the next 60 days, according to the report.
