Physician practice closures aren’t slowing down. Bankruptcies climbed to their highest level in recent years in 2024 before easing somewhat in 2025. Becker’s tracked 23 physician practice closures in 2025.
From a 30-location dermatology group that abruptly stopped paying its staff to a rural Wyoming clinic that couldn’t survive three years, here are seven physician practice closures tracked in May:
1. Linwood, N.J.-based Connolly Dermatology offices across New Jersey, the Philadelphia area and Delaware have shuttered after employees say the practice stopped paying its staff.
2. Ogdensburg, N.Y.-based North Star Health Alliance will close its Watertown, N.Y.-based North Star Pediatrics practice June 30 amid ongoing restructuring and operational stabilization efforts after it sought bankruptcy protection in early February.
3. Hoskinson Health and Wellness, a rural clinic in Gillette, Wyo., will close July 31, three years after opening, citing financial unsustainability.
4. Optum Primary Care in Franklin, Ind., announced plans to close and its providers will move to different locations.
5. Mobile (Ala.) Obstetrics & Gynecology has notified patients that it will be closing. The practice, which includes six physicians, said it will wind down clinical operations and is working to ensure continuity of care for patients.
6. An Optum-operated OB-GYN practice in Rock Hill, N.Y. will close July 1. Crystal Run Healthcare’s OB-GYN department at its Rock Hill location will cease operations June 30.
7. MaineGeneral Eye Center in Fairfield will close July 31, leaving around 4,500 patients without access to local ophthalmology care.
