Physician practices across five states announced closures in September, citing retirements, consolidation and financial strain.

Here are seven closures Becker’s reported:

1. Optum is planning to close one of its clinics in Anacortes, Wash., in December. The practice, Island Internal Medicine, will provide care to patients until Dec. 4. The organization is consolidating its services at its clinic in La Conner, Wash., which is about 12 miles away from the current Anacortes practice.

2. Fort Wayne (Ind.) Medical Oncology and Hematology closed its Bluffton, Ind., clinic and consolidated services at a new Decatur, Ind., on Sept. 29. Patients will transition to the new Decatur clinic  starting Oct. 1. Fort Wayne Gynecologic Oncology, FWMOH’s gynecologic oncology division, will begin offering services at the Decatur site Sept. 23.

3. Roseburg, Ore.-based Umpqua Orthopedics will close for patient care Sept. 15, ending more than two decades of orthopedic service in Douglas County. The practice announced the closure in a notice to patients; a reason was not provided. Michael Krnacik, MD, will relocate to Bay Area Hospital’s Orthopedic Clinic in Coos Bay, Ore., while Sandesh Pandit, MD, will relocate to the East Coast, with no further details shared about his future practice.

4. Walla Walla, Wash.-based Seleverstov Medical is permanently closing its doors. The practice is asking patients with urgent medical needs to seek care at urgent care clinics or emergency rooms in the interim. Medical requests relayed to the office before Sept. 8, along with care-coordination requests from other medical professionals, will still be addressed, but the practice can no longer accept new requests and is urging patients to establish care with a new primary care provider.

5. Two cardiologists in Wichita Falls, Texas, are closing their practices. Shona Sudarshan, MD, and Sriram Sudarshan, MD, are retiring from practice at North Texas Cardiology Center. Their practices will close Jan. 1, 2027.

6. Parker, Ariz.-based Parker Medical Center will close its doors Oct. 16, according to a notice posted on the practice’s website. Keith Shillito, MD, the practice’s physician, said he and his wife, the office manager, decided they could no longer sustain the rural health clinic financially as a private practice.

7. MultiCare Health System will close three Rockwood eye clinics in Spokane County, Wash., by Dec. 31, affecting 56 employees, including physicians and optometrists, the Spokane Journal reported Sept. 4. The clinics slated to close are Rockwood Eye & Optical Center-Downtown in Spokane, Rockwood Eye Center-Valley in Spokane Valley and Rockwood Eye Center-Northpointe in North Spokane.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
