Parker, Ariz.-based Parker Medical Center will close its doors Oct. 16, according to a notice posted on the practice’s website.
Keith Shillito, MD, the practice’s physician, said he and his wife, the office manager, decided they could no longer sustain the rural health clinic financially as a private practice. The practice asked La Paz Regional Hospital to take over the building and bring on Dr. Shillito and his staff as hospital employees, but the hospital declined; La Paz Regional Hospital has since agreed to hire nurse practitioner Sandra Matheny and two other staff members.
Patients are being urged to find a new primary care provider immediately, with local options including La Paz Regional Hospital’s River Health Clinic, La Paz Medical Services in Quartzsite, Ariz., a walk-in clinic in Parker, or providers in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
