Here’s what you should know:
1. Various specialties have an increase in these types of claims including orthopedics, emergency medicine and obstetrics/gynecology.
2. Cardiology, internal medicine and hospital medicine have experienced decreases in these types of claims.
3. System factors leading to EHR closed claims, including technology issues, rose 8 percent. However, user factors that contributed to EHR-related claims fell 6 percent.
4. The firm found an increase in EHR-related claims occurring in patient rooms and fewer claims in hospital clinics, ASCs, physician offices, emergency rooms as well as labor and delivery settings. Despite the decrease, hospital clinics and physician offices are the top locations for EHR-related claims.
