Almost half of employed physicians cite a loss of autonomy as the least favorite part of their job, according to Medscape’s Employed Physicians Report 2025, published Oct. 31.
The report is based on a survey of 823 employed physicians conducted between March 19 and June 3
Here’s what employed physicians said is the worst part of their job:
- Less autonomy: 48%
- Less income potential: 33%
- More workplace rules: 31%
- Company management: 30%
- Mandatory performance targets: 27%
- Lack of job security: 7%
- Not as productive as I would like: 5%
- Other: 2%
- Nothing: 4%
