The number of ASCs in all 50 states

There are a total of 6,087 Medicare-certified ASCs in the U.S.; however, the number of ASCs in each state varies widely, according to data from the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.

The ASCA used CMS data from December 2022 — the most recent available — to break down the number of ASCs in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

California has 848 surgery centers, making it the state with the most ASCs, compared to Vermont — the state with the lowest number of centers — which has two.
