The age physicians aim to retire

The largest percentage of physicians plan to retire from medicine in their mid to late 60s, according to Medscape’s 2023 “Physicians Eye Retirement Report,” published Dec. 14.

However, some physicians plan to retire much later, while others plan to retire much earlier. 

The percentage of physicians who plan to retire between their 40s and their 70s: 

40s: 2%

50s: 16%

Early 60s: 19%

Mid-late 60s: 28%

70s: 25%
