Orthopedists on average have the highest net worth, according to Medscape's Physician Wealth and Debt report, with 15 percent reporting a net worth exceeding $5 million. On the other end of the spectrum, here are the five specialty groups with the highest percent of physicians report a net worth under $500,000.

1. Family Medicine: 44 percent (average annual compensation: $209,000)
2. Neurology: 43 percent (average annual compensation: $280,000)
