A physician-owned hospital in Wichita, Texas, will shutter after more than 25 years of service.
Here are three things to know:
1. Kell West Regional Hospital and its property will be acquired by United Regional for “future use” and will wind down operations in the coming weeks.
2. According to an Oct. 22 Facebook post, the hospital cited the evolving healthcare landscape, including cost of infrastructure needs and care, patient volumes and reimbursement rates, as the reason for the closure.
3. “Kell West’s transition is the result of thoughtful consideration and examination of whether we could continue to sustain our commitment to our staff, physicians, and community,” Jerry Myers, MD, CEO of Kell West, said in the post. “We are proud of what we have built over several decades, and the many lives our team has impacted over the years.”
