Here’s what you should know:
1. The mini telescope is for age-related macular degeneration. This procedure was the first time the telescope was used in a patient who had cataract surgery.
2. Dr. Gollamudi performed the surgery Aug. 27.
3. Dr. Gollamudi is one of 20 surgeons participating in a clinical trial for the device.
4. The telescope magnifies images in a patient’s blind spot and projects them onto a patient’s retina.
