Woodbury, Minn.-based Summit Orthopedics earned shoulder joint replacement certification from The Joint Commission, making it the first ASC in the state to receive the distinction.
The facility is the first freestanding ASC in the U.S. to be recognized by the commission as disease specific certified in arthroplasty (shoulder joint replacement), according to a March 12 news release.
The ASC also received certifications in spine fusion and advanced total hip and knee replacement, the first freestanding ASC in the country with all three certifications.
Requirements to receive certification include providing care to at least 200 patients, the use of standardized clinical care delivery based on evidence-based care and clinical practice guidelines, data collection and performance measurement as well as participation in the American Spine Registry, the release said.
