Single-payer healthcare system is best, most physicians say 

About 70 percent of physicians think some version of a single-payer healthcare system is best for the U.S., according to Medscape’sPhysicians’ Views on Today’s Divisive Social Issues Report 2022.”

Medscape’s survey, conducted between Jan. 22 and March 2, queried more than 2,340 physicians on what healthcare system they viewed to be the best for the U.S. 

Here’s how they answered:

  1. Health insurance/patient pays some expenses: 24 percent of physicians
  2. Single payer/insurance mix to guarantee care: 48 percent of physicians
  3. Single-payer system to guarantee care: 21 percent of physicians
  4. No need to guarantee healthcare for all: 6 percent of physicians
