Physicians anxiously awaiting MU rule updates — 6 notes

The CMS will release its final changes to meaningful use regulations for 2015 through 2016, according to Healthcare IT News.

Here are six notes:

1. The proposed rule allows hospitals and eligible providers to attest to 90 consecutive days of meaningful use for 2015 only, rather than a year.

2. If this rule is implemented, Oct. 1 would be the latest date providers could start recording meaningful use data. EHR vendors cannot update their systems and hospitals must wait on the upgrades until they can start the next phase of MU until CMS decides on this rule.

3. Healthcare professionals do not have an exact date as to when the rule will come out.

4. Many providers want clarification on measures for population health management and patient electronic access.

5. Some healthcare professionals urge CMS to release the 2015 portion of the rule by August and then the 2016 portion later.

6. Various members of Congress are using the time to recommend ways of blocking meaningful use in the future.
