Here are six things to know:

1. OptumRx manages more than one billion prescriptions annually, and Walgreens has nearly 8,200 pharmacies nationally.

2. The integrated pharmacy care program will allow OptumRx members to fill 90-day prescriptions at home delivery copay levels at any Walgreens’ pharmacy or through OptumRx home delivery.

3. The collaboration is intended to improve treatment adherence rates and patient outcomes by offering patients the choice of how to receive their medications. Also, a pharmacist will be available at all times.

4. Members can receive clinical guidance related to diseases, like diabetes.

5. Though the partnership, OptumRx and Walgreens will better manage prescription drug prices through their combined health data and analytics.

6. The companies plan to launch the new program on Jan. 1, 2017.

“By integrating Walgreens industry-leading in-store pharmacy capabilities and convenient retail locations with OptumRx’s advanced pharmacy care services, we expect to create significant value for our clients and member,” said Larry Renfro, CEO, Optum.
