Three things to know:

1. The Philadelphia-based university’s ophthalmology clinical practice is set to close by Aug. 23.

2. The closure will affect Walter Harris, MD, head of Drexel’s ophthalmology department, along with the department’s five ophthalmologists, two optometrists and nine residents.

3. The department has just four weeks to cease operations, compared to the six months other departments were given. Dr. Harris said the abrupt timing could leave patients in the lurch, even though they’ll be notified about the pending closure.
