1. Last year, New Jersey’s 364 surgery centers employed 9,100 people.
2. The state’s surgery centers generated $73 million in tax dollars.
3. In New Jersey, surgery centers pay taxes based on the amount of profit made. In 2004, the maximum tax was $150,000 per year, but now the more profitable centers in the state paid $350,000 each, according to the report.
4. The positive economic impact surgery centers made in 2014 was not insignificant. The state has 72 hospitals, which are much larger organizations. In 2013, these hospitals had a $21 billion impact on the state economy, according to the report.
