Here are five observations:
1. Researchers led by Munitta Muthana, PhD, found that MRI scanners can also guide “tumor busting therapies” to certain areas in patients’ bodies.
2. Cells injected with paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles receive non-invasive guidance from MRI scanners to find primary and secondary tumor sites in a body.
3. With this efficient treatment, drug doses may be decreased.
4. Prior to this study, scientists were struggling with the targeting portion of cell-based therapy in tissues.
5. In this study, researchers tested their theories on mice with cells carrying SPIOs and the oncolytic virus. The mice demonstrated an 800 percent increase in the therapy effects.
