Google Cloud has debuted a new artificial intelligence claims acceleration suite that streamlines prior authorization and claims processing.

Prior authorization can cause a large administrative burden for practices, which have to have employees check prior authorization requirements for patients and send documents and records to insurance.

Google’s Claims Data Activator, part of the new suite, uses AI to convert unstructured data, like PDF files or images, into structured data and to parse prior authorization requests and reduce manual data entry time. The suite also uses AI to review and submit prior authorization requests.

Blue Shield of California plans to add an AI prior authorization process for its 4.8 million members, as does international healthcare company Bupa.

AI-enabled prior authorization is available to Google Cloud customers now, and other claims suite features will be available later in 2023, according to an April 13 press release.
