How total compensation has increased for NPs, PAs since 2019

Nurse practitioners and physician assistants have both had an increase in median total compensation of at least 8% since 2019, according to a report from the Medical Group Management Association.

The organization released its “Provider Compensation and Productivity Data Report” May 28. The report includes data from more than 211,000 physicians and advanced practice providers and compensation stats are based on 2019-2023 data.

Here is how the median total compensation has changed for NPs and PAs since 2019, as well as year-over-year.

Surgical NPs

2019-2023 change: 13.41%

2022-2023 change: 4.05%

Primary care NPs

2019-2023 change: 17.74%

2022-2023 change: 3.82%

Non-surgical/non-primary care NPs

2019-2023 change: 22.35%

2022-2023 change: 6.61%

Surgical PAs

2019-2023 change: 8.96%

2022-2023 change: 5.04%

Primary care PAs

2019-2023 change: 20.65%

2022-2023 change: 5.65%

Non-surgical/non-primary care PAs

2019-2023 change: 17.47%

2022-2023 change: 6.12%
