Medpage Today surveyed nurse practitioners and physician assistants in 29 specialties about their salaries.

Health Media surveyed more than 20,000 providers to gather survey data, and 7,753 provided salary data. Survey Design & Analysis analyzed and reported the data.

Here is how satisfied physicians were with their salaries:

Very satisfied
2018: 20 percent
2017: 14 percent

Somewhat satisfied
2018: 39 percent
2017: 36 percent

Neither satisfied nor dissatisfied
2018: 11 percent
2017: 12 percent

Somewhat dissatisfied
2018: 20 percent
2017: 23 percent

Very dissatisfied
2018: 10 percent
2017: 15 percent
