What makes it great: Greenspring Surgery Center offers a wide array of orthopedic procedures, including arthroscopic surgical care of the ankle, foot, knee and shoulders as well as hand surgeries. Pain management offerings include specialized spinal injections and musculoskeletal rehabilitations. All the physicians at Greenspring are fellowship-trained and are supported by a team of healthcare professionals with a high-level of expertise in orthopedic care.
Greenspring has demonstrated excellence and great teamwork in the face of a challenging period when scheduling and patient flow patterns began negatively influencing time management and efficiency at the center, says Administrator Georganna Howell, RNFA, CNOR, CEN, LNC. The center’s leaders, including the board of directors, President Jon Koman, MD, and CEO Heidi Mattingly, worked with Ms. Howell to implement a plan of action that significantly improved available surgical time by 40 percent and increased OR efficiency by decreasing turnaround time by 20 percent.
The efficiency and time management improvements also could not have been achieved without the hard work, cooperation and diligence by the center’s physicians, schedulers, business office and clinical staff, who worked collaboratively to improve the center’s efficiency by re-working physician surgical time and overall patient flow, Ms. Howell says.
“The ultimate goal was realized by incorporating all team members into our plan of action,” Ms. Howell says. “The changes made in the schedule offer patients less wait-time [when scheduling a surgical procedure] and less wait-time prior to their surgical procedure. Our physicians presented positive input and willingness to at least give [the new scheduling procedure] a try.”
