Female physician compensation by region

Female physicians working in the Pacific region earn the highest average annual compensation compared with those working in other regions, at $314,000 a year.

The salary is $14,000 higher than the nationwide average, which sits at $300,000, according to Medscape’s 2023 “Female Physician Compensation Report,” published Oct. 23. 

Female physician compensation across eight U.S. regions: 

Pacific: $314,000 

West North Central: $308,000

East Central: $300,000

Mid-Atlantic: $296,000

South Atlantic: $296,000

New England: $295,000

Mountain: $294,000

West South Central: $294,000
