East Loop Surgery Center donates $18k in equipment to provide nursing students firsthand surgical experience — 4 takeaways

Odessa, Texas-based East Loop Surgery Center gave the Nursing Simulation Center at the Odessa-based University of Texas of the Permian Basin a more than $18,000 equipment donation, according to OA Online.

1. Through the donation, nursing students can get firsthand experience using equipment for procedures, including outpatient surgery.

2. The surgery center could have sold, retained or donated the equipment. The practice opted to donate the equipment, which estimated value is $18,405.

3. UTPB plans to use the equipment to train highly qualified nurses. UTPB President David Watts noted many of these nurses will go on to serve patients in the Odessa region.

4. Many of East Loop’s operations have been consolidated into Midland, Texas-based Vista Surgery Center. However, Bill Ritter, East Loop Surgery’s general partner, noted the center still has business in Odessa.
