Here are four highlights:
1. Dr. Ihde has been performing bariatric surgery for a little over 15 years and says 90 percent of the process is about teaching patients about lifestyle changes.
2. When it comes to medical coverage, typically smaller insurance companies do not cover the procedure, however, some larger companies do.
3. Across the state of Texas, about 30 percent of adults are obese and about half of those patients would qualify for bariatric surgery.
4. Dr. Ihde earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Kansas at Wichita.
