Brooks Army Medical Center performs its 1st robotic surgery: 3 quick points

The Brooks Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, has performed its first robot-aided, pediatric surgery to remove a cystic mass behind a patient’s bladder, according to The Fort Campbell Courier.

Here are three key notes, according to the report:

1. Thomas Novak, MD, BAMC’s chief of pediatric urology, said the surgery was successful.

2. BAMC has been performing robotic surgery for years, but this was the first procedure on a child.

3. Dr. Novak explained to The Fort Campbell Courier that robotic surgery offers many benefits, more agility and better views of the surgical site.
