Here are four things to know about the project.

1. The application was filed with the Green Mountain Care Board, which oversees the CON process in the state. The board was created by the Vermont legislature in 2011.

2. If approved, the Green Mountain Surgery Center would be the second independent surgery center in the state.

3. At this time, the Eye Surgery Center in South Burlington is the state’s only independent ASC, according the report. There are approximately 175 surgery centers throughout the rest of New England.

4. The physicians hoping to open the new surgery center included several letters of support from healthcare consumer groups, employee organizations and businesses with their CON application, according to the report.
