What you should know:

1. Patients with cataracts are typically treated with a monofocal lens, which enables excellent far vision but subpar near and intermediate vision. The AcuFocus clinical study will examine whether putting the IC-8 lens in one eye and a standard monofocal lens in the other will improve cataract patients’ near and intermediate vision, in addition to far vision.

2. The IC-8 lens is a clear monofocal lens with a mini ring in the center. An opening in the ring is designed to expand vision range by extending the focus of light rays entering the eye.

3. Bucci Laser Vision is enrolling eligible patients who are at least 22 years old, have cataracts in both eyes and will participate in all examinations, follow-up visits and appointments.

4. Dr. Bucci has performed over 35,000 microsurgical eye surgeries, including more than 20,000 cataract and 6,000 multifocal intraocular implants.

“The IC-8 lens may represent a significant change for cataract patients, utilizing small aperture optics or the pinhole effect,” Dr. Bucci said. “The Bucci Laser Vision team is excited to be part of this important clinical trial.”
