AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa to administer Medicaid managed care program: 5 points

Iowa’s Department of Health Services chose AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa, AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa affiliate, to administer the state’s Medicaid managed care program. The contract is effective Jan. 1, 2016.

Here are five points:

1. AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa will be one of four health plans to administer the Medicaid managed care program.

2. The Medicaid managed care program is called the Iowa High Quality Health Care Initiative.

3. AmeriHealth Caritas provides care through its integrated managed care products, behavioral health services, full-service pharmaceutical benefit manger and specialty pharmacy.

4. The company will hire about 400 associates to support the health plan. More than half of these employees will work in Iowa.

5. The associates will work with providers, advocacy groups and community organizations in Iowa to provide Iowans with healthcare.
