1. Self-managed healthcare real estate company Physicians Realty Trust acquired the 15,662-square-foot Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield (Texas). The surgery center is a joint venture between United Surgical Partners International, 20 physicians and Baylor Scott & White Healthcare System. The total purchase price was $8.5 million.
2. Meridian Surgical Partners, LLC, a national operator of outpatient ambulatory surgery centers, announced today that it has settled a qui tam lawsuit brought by a former employee at one of its centers, Treasure Coast Surgery Center in Stuart, Fla.
3. Hurley Health Services, based in Swartz Creek, Mich., and Lapeer (Mich.) County Surgery Center entered a new affiliation to form an integrated system of care for the surrounding community.
4. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Physicians Ambulatory Surgery Center-New Braunfels (Texas) received a 2013/2014 APEX Quality Award for patient satisfaction for the sixth consecutive year.
5. AtlantiCare Surgical Center in Cape May, N.J., acquired a Lens-X femtolaser for performing cataract surgery.
6. Peter Kurzweil, MD, a partner at the Surgery Center of Long Beach (Calif.) coauthored a study on the efficacy of traditional meniscus repairs.
7. Kennedy Health System has proposed a $55 million overhaul of its Kennedy University Hospital campus in Cherry Hill, N.J., including a new surgery center.
