6 Statistics on Employed Physicians’ Monthly Night Call Volume

Most physicians employed by healthcare organizations have night call duty only one to four times a month and nearly a third don’t have night call duty at all, according to Medscape’s Employed Doctors Report 2014.

The report includes responses from 4,600 physicians.

When asked about their monthly night call volume, employed physicians reported the following:

•    No night call duty — 30 percent
•    Night call duty 1 to 4 times — 33 percent
•    Night call duty 5 to 8 times — 21 percent
•    Night call duty 9 to 12 times — 6 percent
•    Night call duty 13 to 16 times — 4 percent
•    Night call duty more than 16 times — 4 percent
