3 Statistics on Physicians’ Incomes From Practicing Medicine

In 2012, most physicians described their income as flat or declining over the previous three years, according to “A Survey of America’s Physicians: Practice Patterns and Perspectives,” released by The Physicians Foundation.

The report includes responses from 13,575 physicians. The survey was conducted on behalf of The Physicians Foundation by Merritt Hawkins and completed in September 2012.  

When asked to describe their income from practicing medicine over the last three years, respondents reported:

•    Flat — 39.7 percent
•    Declining — 46.7 percent
•    Increasing — 13.6 percent
