That’s up from 2021’s report, which indicated that 22% of physicians were considering leaving the medical field.

About 24% of male physicians are considering leaving medicine, compared with 28% of female physicians. Physicians between the ages of 30 and 39 and physicians over 60 are the most likely to consider a change.

A plurality of physicians (42%) indicated that if they left medicine, they would transfer to a career in education or teaching.
