15 statistics on providers’ views on the ACA’s impact

Journal of the American Medical Association released a report detailing providers’ views on the Affordable Care Act’s impact.

Here are 15 statistics:

A reported 36 percent of providers said the ACA has a negative impact on the overall medical practice, as opposed to 23 percent reporting it had a positive impact. Thirty-one percent said it had no impact.

Twenty-five percent said the ACA negatively impacted the quality of care, as opposed to 18 percent saying it positively impacted the care quality. Most physicians (50 percent) reported the ACA had no impact on the quality of care.

Of the respondents, 35 percent said the ACA negatively impacted the ability to meet patient demand, as opposed to those physicians (10 percent) who said it had a positive impact. A reported 44 percent said it had no impact.

In terms of the cost of patient healthcare, 44 percent of physicians said the ACA had a negative impact. Twenty-one percent said it had a positive impact and 17 percent said it had no impact.

Twenty-four percent of providers said the ACA negatively impacted access to healthcare and insurance across the country, as opposed to 48 percent saying it had a positive impact. Only 12 percent said the ACA had no impact.
