Young, healthy adults at crossroads with health coverage enrollment: 5 points

Millennials have to make a choice — purchase health insurance or pay the fine. Many healthy young adults are struggling to fit in a health insurance bill among various other expenses, according to the Chicago Tribune.

1. The open enrollment deadline is fast approaching on Jan. 31, 2016.

2. This year’s fine for failure to buy coverage reaches $695 or 2.5 percent of taxable income.

3. The Kaiser Family Foundation estimated the 2016 average fine will be $969 per household.

4. The Obama administration raised the penalty to incent young healthy Americans to enter the insurance pool, which will keep premiums down across the board.

5. Juggling multiple jobs and paying back college loans, some Millennials can’t afford health insurance, despite the invoked penalty.
