Medi-Cal enrollment exceeds initial estimates — 4 highlights

Medi-Cal enrollment has beat initial estimates and has doubled in Tuolumne County since the Affordable Care Act was implemented in 2014, according to The Union Democrat.

Here are four highlights:

1. As of November 2015, 12,248 Tuolumne County residents were enrolled in Medi-Cal. Of that figure, 7,905 are adults and 4,343 are children.

2. Based on U.S. Census Bureau estimates of Tuolumne County's total residents, nearly 23 percent are enrolled in Medi-Cal.

3. The state department predicted less than 1.5 million Californians would have enrolled in the ACA by now, yet more than 4 million state residents have signed up.

4. In December 2015, the Department of Health Care Services reported Medi-Cal covered 12.7 million Californians.
