Researchers analyzed 2008 to 2014 data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey–Household Component and American Community Survey.
Here are three findings:
1. The greatest insurance coverage increase occurred between 2013 and 2014, notably in California, Washington, Oregon, Florida and Texas .
2. Researchers did not find an association between an increasing insurance coverage and worse access to care.
3. The study found better primary care access may lower the need for specialty care.
