According to the report, savings at a specialized facility like Surgery Center of Oklahoma can exceed 50 percent compared to the local hospital. Surgical procedures ranging from joint arthroscopy to spinal disc fusions incur costs between $1,100 and $21,500, depending on the procedure, at the surgery center.

The report says the surgery center is proving that the majority of healthcare costs rest not in the medical procedures themselves, but in the profit-seeking institutions in the healthcare industry.
