Sen. Sanders to introduce single-payer healthcare bill in September — 4 key notes

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told Politico he would introduce a single-payer “Medicare for all” healthcare bill when Congress returns from recess in September.

1. Mr. Sanders admitted the bill has little chance to pass Congress or to be signed into law by President Donald Trump, if it was to pass.

2. Mr. Sanders has been a longtime proponent of single-payer healthcare. He touted single-payer healthcare during his 2016 run for president.

3. Democrats like Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., support the measure.

4. Mr. Sanders called the bill the “most significant step forward legislatively since I suspect the creation of Social Security.”
