Here are three things to note:
1. Sen. Sanders’ announcement comes shortly after the Republicans’ decision to pull the American Health Care Act. The GOP said it was withdrawing the bill on March 24, 2017.
2. During his speech, Sen. Sanders’ said this move indicates the U.S. population’s dissatisfaction with GOP policies and once Americans better understand the single-payer bill, they will be on board.
3. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., also spoke alongside Sen. Sanders and said although he doesn’t believe the Republican-led Congress will pass the bill, it is important to push it forward and keep it on the country’s radar. He said, “I think we have to do keep the goal out there, because we need in this country, like any industrialized country, a healthcare system that’s affordable, accessible and universal.”
