Providers Further Behind on ICD-10 Procedural Codes Than Diagnosis Codes

Providers seem to be more hesitant to learn ICD-10-PCS than ICD-10-CM, even though the procedural codes are more complex than the diagnosis codes and 20 times more complex than the ICD-9 procedural codes, according to an EHR Intelligence report.

Healthcare providers should expect to spend as much as twice the amount of time training for ICD-10-PCS as they spent training for ICD-10-CM. The implementation deadline is still nine months away, though practices must not delay training and preparation any further. Education in small portions each day tends to bring the best long-lasting results.
