Maine Physician Pays $321K to Settle False Billing Claims

A Portland, Maine, physician has agreed to pay $321,000 to settle false billing claims for federal healthcare programs, according to Sea Cost Online.

Peter File, MD, an osteopathic physician will pay back money he billed Medicare and Tricare for providing osteopathic manipulative treatment, evaluation and management services to patients in violation of billing guidelines.

Dr. File’s lawyers blame the problems on “complex federal regulations.” Dr. File admitted no liability and settled to avoid a lengthy legal process and fees.
