MACs could consider covering fecal transplants

Fecal microbiota transplantation has been shown to be an effective treatment for recalcitrant C. difficile infections. The Medicare Part B administrative contractor for Kentucky and Ohio has expressed potential interest in covering the procedure, according to an AAPC report.

A number of commercial payers, such as Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield, already cover the procedure for patients with current CDI.
