IRS miscalculates ACA tax credits for 7% of Americans: 4 notes

The Internal Revenues Service miscalculated Affordable Care Act tax credits for nearly 182,000 Americans last year, according to The Hill.

Here are four notes:

1. The miscalculations comprised a minority as 2.6 million Americans filed taxes last year.

2. The ACA created the tax credit to offset health insurance costs for low- and moderate-income Americans.

3. Of those who filed taxes, the IRS correctly calculated 93 percent of the returns.

4. The IRS sent letters to people who received credits in advance but did not file tax returns to remind them to do a reconciliation.
