Vickie Sanders:
The collection of the self-pay balance continues to be a challenge in the ASC environment. Patients are electing to participate in healthcare plans that have a higher deductible such as $2,500 to $5,000 for a reduced monthly premium. The challenge is to have collection policies that reflect good customer service while trying to collect large deductibles in a timely manner to avoid increasing a facility’s A/R days or increase the A/R follow-up activity for the self-pay collector.

At Nueterra Healthcare, our facilities strive to work with each patient prior to the date of service to assist them with making the best possible payment solution to fit their personal needs. We offer 90-day payment plans with no penalty, Care Credit, and electronic payment plans on our facility websites through E-Pay Health, a partner of GHN, our clearinghouse vendor. The added payment solution gives our facilities greater opportunity in collecting self-pay balances in a timely manner and allows our patients more flexibility in meeting their self-pay responsibilities.
