Humana surpasses Q1 estimates with $13.7B earnings: 5 points

1. The payer had earnings of $13.72 billion.

2. Eight Zacks analysts predicted Humana will generate $13.62 billion in earnings for the first quarter.

3. For the first quarter 2016, Humana’s revenue totaled $13.8 billion.

4. Adjusted earnings per share were $2.75, beating Yahoo! Finance analysts’ estimates of $2.49.

5. In a release, the payer said it fared better than projected due to its retail segment’s growth, especially for its Medicare Advantage business.
