Humana’s Q4 profits up, revenue down: 5 key notes

Louisville, Ky.-based Humana reported a rise in profits and a drop in revenues for its fourth quarter.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Humana reported earnings per share of $2.09 for Q4, an increase from earnings per share of $1.54 in Q4 2015.

2. Humana beat analysts’ projections of $2.05 per share, according to RTT News,

3. Humana’s pretax income was $643 million for Q4, an increase over $452 million in 2015.

4. However, Humana’s Q4 losses were $486 million, an increase over $246 million in Q4 2015. RTT News attributes the increase to a write-off of $583 million in receivable assets “associated with the risk corridor premium stabilization program.

5. Following a federal judge ruling against its merger with Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna, Humana will update investors with its 2017 guidance on Feb. 16, 2017.
